English below. Enschedese studentengroep Ariëns Katholieke Studenten vierde zondag 22 juni 2014 zijn 66-jarig bestaan. Kardinaal Eijk was speciaal naar de Enschedese Jacobuskerk afgereisd om dit heuglijke feit mee te vieren.
Tegenover RTV Oost verklaarde Kardinaal Eijk waarom hij graag de Enschedese studenten met een bezoek vereerde: “Ze worden later wetenschappers en misschien ook wel de leiders in de samenleving. Het is van belang dat we onder die groepen ook mensen hebben die echt Christelijk gevormd zijn, en ik ben daarom blij dat deze studentengroep zich daarvoor zó inzet.”
Kardinaal Eijk celebreerde een Heilige Mis die voor een groot deel in het Engels was vanwege de overwegend internationale studenten van de Enschedese studentengroep. Onder de aanwezigen waren ook leden van de Enschedese gemeenteraad en Tweede Kamer. Na afloop was er een feestelijke receptie met muziek en hapjes uit onder andere Europa, Latijns-Amerika, Azië en Afrika.

Before the camera of RTV Oost explained why Cardinal Eijk was glad to make this long journey to the Catholic students of Enschede: "They will become scientists, perhaps even leaders in society. It is important that these groups of people receive Christian formation too. I'm therefore very glad that this student community works this hard to achieve that."
Cardinal Eijk celebrated a Holy Mass mainly in English because of the majority of international students in the Enschede student group. Among the faithful were also members of the local and national government. After Holy Mass a festive celebration was held with music and snacks from Europe, Latin-America, Asia and Africa.
Ariëns Katholieke Studenten is a community that meets weekly on Wednesdays. Those who are curious now are welcome!
